Macross 25th Anniversary Celebration

Last month I had a chance to attend the 25th Anniversary Convention of the anime classic, the Macross Saga. It was held at Taylor’s University College in Subang Jaya which is near where I stay so I decided to give it a go. Macross, in case you didn’t know, is a long running scifi series created by Shoji Kawamori back in 1982. In all of its series, it features transforming mechas called Variable Fighters with a song idol playing a pivotal role to the story.

One of the major sponsor for the event was Animax Asia and Hannah Tan, their official ambassador was invited to grace the event. The turnout wasn’t as big as I had expected considering it was advertised on the papers recently. I was given a goodie bag filled with some Animax merchandise and KomikFactory’s promotional materials. There were several stalls selling various models and toys featuring Macross, Transformers, Starwars and even Gundams. The highlights of the Macross showcase are definitely the limited editions of 25th Anniversary Macross VF – 1S and YF – 19. (Sorry it was boxed and I couldnt get a nice pic)

There were a couple of consoles set up on the stage playing one of the recent Macross game released on PS2 for a competition. I managed to catch a glimpse of the upcoming Macross Frontier series which is airing sometime in March this year in Japan and I must say, the visuals are fantastic and the dogfight scenes are breathtaking. Mixing 3D CG for most of the mecha scene seems to look very sharp. I will definitely be looking forward to watching this series after the disappointing Macross Zero.

I got myself the commemorative T Shirt which looks pretty neat and managed to get a shot with Ms Hannah herself before heading back home to revisit some Macross memories haha. Check out the Gallery for the rest of the pictures.
