Anime & Comic Fair 2008 Coverage
I attended the Anime & Comic Fair last Sunday held at the Berjaya Times Square shopping complex. For a cosplay event, this is probably one of the smaller ones that I have attended. There were some stalls setup promoting a new Asian based MMORPG game along with a local brew DDR clone. As usual, you would find your doujinshi stalls, anime sales and figurine display. Unfortunately the figurines were just that, display only. No Gunpla, Revoltech or GoodSmile figurines for sale this time around. The animes were selling for cheap, up to 70% discount for selected titles so I got myself Towards the Terra(ann) for only RM 20.
The highlight of the event would definitely be the cosplay performances and games. I’m not sure if the turnout was better yesterday but there were only nine entries today, including a pretty cool Commando-like cosplayer dude and a whacky Naruto character. The Commando dude had an actual revolving gattling gun which made the crowd went wild when he started it. You’d probably recognize some of these cosplayers from last years Comic Fiesta as well. Overall this event was a bit of a let down cause there really weren’t many things to see but hopefully the organizers will improve on that next time. Hit the pictures to view the full gallery.

Sounds a bit dissapointing to me.. I have actually attended anime events in Malaysia twice and unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. I’m actually really dissapointed with the lack of products for sale (figures only for display wtf??) as well as the cosplayers. But it is good to see these events being organized. Looking forward for more events like these in the future!

I think figurine collecting is relatively new in Malaysia and not many shops carry them as well. But given time, I’m sure it will gain popularity. Just look at cosplaying, a few years back there wasn’t even any events like this in Malaysia and now there’s a few coming within the next few months. Looking forward to GACC2008 this weekend.
